About Your Heating & Cooling System
Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment needs regular or preventative maintenance?
Heat pumps and air conditioners benefit from professional tune-ups twice a year, typically scheduled in the spring and fall. Inspections for boiler and furnace systems should encompass ductwork, pipes, dampers, valves, chimneys, registers, radiators, pumps, blowers, fuel lines, oil tanks, and all components of the furnace and boiler. Similarly, heat pump and air conditioning unit inspections should cover the fan, compressor, indoor coils, outdoor coils, and refrigerant lines.
What are the benefits of using a programmable thermostat?
Programmable thermostats offer greater accuracy and efficiency compared to their mercury-containing counterparts due to their electronic nature. They enable precise temperature control throughout the day without manual adjustments, ensuring comfort and energy savings. Automatic scheduling eliminates the need to remember to change settings manually, enhancing convenience and optimizing energy usage.
What type of filter should I use, and how frequently should I replace it?
Standard filters effectively maintain cleanliness in your system and ductwork, but they don’t significantly improve indoor air quality. To enhance air quality, consider using a media air cleaner. Positioned between the main return duct and the blower cabinet, a media filter can improve dust and particle removal up to seven times compared to standard filters. Upgrading to a pleated media filter can even remove everything from dust to airborne viruses from the filtered air. Ensure you choose a filter that matches your blower’s capacity for optimal performance. For optimal efficiency and filtration, we recommend replacing disposable filters at least once a month. If you have washable filters, they should be cleaned monthly.
