Going Green

The environment has become an issue of increased visibility and concern in the past few decades. We are all responsible for maintaining the environment for a healthier world for each other and for future generations. At Collins Indoor Air Solutions, we certainly do not think we are an exception. We have been promoting and actively involved with high-efficiency heating and cooling products. Today we offer not only high-efficiency heating products, but also high-efficiency air conditioning products. Below is some information about ENERGY STAR products, Refrigerant, and Recovery & Recycling. These are just some of the ways Collins Indoor Air Solutions is trying to make the world a healthier place for everyone to live.

Up to half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling.  Making smart decisions about your home's heating and air conditioning system can have a significant effect on your utility bills and your comfort.  ENERGY STAR products provide high-efficiency heating and cooling that can reduce your heating costs by as much as 40% and help you save up to 60% on your cooling bills1. By choosing ENERGY STAR, you are helping to prevent global warming and promoting cleaner air, all while enhancing the comfort of your own home.

In response to international environmental concerns, the refrigerant R-410A was developed as an alternative to R-22, more commonly referred to as Freon. R-410A contains no chlorine, so it is not damaging to the atmosphere’s ozone layer. Also, it has been shown that R410A allows higher heat transfer than R-22, resulting in a more efficient operation. As of January 1st, 2010, manufacturers will no longer be allowed to produce R22 heating and air conditioning equipment. R22 refrigerant will still be produced to service existing equipment, but not for use in new equipment. On January 1st, 2020, R22 production will cease and only existing R22 refrigerant will be allowed to service existing systems. Due to this lengthy phase-out, the transition from R22 to R410A should not be an issue for homeowners, but rather a step to ward a healthier environment. Our technicians are EPA certified to ensure that the release of ozone-depleting chemicals into the atmosphere is kept to an absolute minimum. Collins Indoor Air Solutions offers air conditioners, heat pumps and air handlers that are all R-410A compatible.

Recovery and Recycling

Collins Indoor Air Solutions realizes the harmful effects that result in releasing refrigerant into the atmosphere; therefore, all of our mechanics use refrigerant recovery machines to recover and reclaim refrigerants. This refrigerant can then be reprocessed to the same purity level as new refrigerant and reused. We also recycle cardboard, scrap metal, and copper to minimize waste for a cleaner and healthier world.
